Hey, JP!

Ambition can take one to great heights, and if you are JP Faulkner, it can take you from a small farm town in northern Ohio to being Columbus Realtor Extraordinaire! JP is a licensed broker and an accredited buyer representative with Re/Max Capital Centre Realtors. Though he has been selling homes for only four years, he is already well on the way to success, modestly aspiring to pass Donald Trump along the way!JP was first introduced to the real estate industry when, at age 19, he bought his first house in Ashland County close to the where he spent his childhood. This piqued his curiosity when he realized the potential of his home as an investment. After taking some real estate classes and deciding that college was a possibility, he moved to Columbus in 1991. JP worked full-time in a local bank to put himself through school. Within a few years of learning everything from anthropology to sociology, JP decided that real estate was, indeed, right for him, and he obtained his real estate license in 1993.

Since his career began those few years ago, “Hey, JP!” has become a personal distinction of this Realtor. It is on his license plate; it is the title of his newspaper column; and its incorporated into his email address. Another distinguishing feature is the title “Realtor Extraordinaire,” under JP’s photograph on his business card. Dubbed this by past clients Fred and Susan Schenk, the label seems appropriate. After realizing what the Schenks requirements for a home were, JP used his ability and hard work to find them exactly what they needed. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone with this much energy!” Fred laughs. The description pinpoints the personality that lets clients know right away that they are dealing with a man who is very committed and serious about his business. His soft-spoken demeanor may lead one to believe otherwise, but JP is firmly dedicated to his client, at every level, and he does everything he can to find the home that’s right for them. It seems to be working well for everyone, as JP’s sales surpassed $6 million last year alone. His technique is simply to approach each transaction in a very personal and honest way. He does not beat around the bush, but gives his clients just “straight-shooting consulting.”JP has certainly made a dent in the Columbus market with this strategy, attaining eight to ten listings every month. The average listing price of the homes he sells is $110,000. He usually lists in the northwest quadrant of Columbus, placing special emphasis on Clintonville, Beechwold, Upper Arlington, Grandview, Italian Village, Short North, Harrison West, and German Village. His listings have ranged from $24,000 to over $650,000, yet he serves all of his buyers and sellers in the same professional manner.

When JP meets with a client, he hopes to develop a relationship. Both sides are then able to decide that they can, and want, to work together. Teamwork is an important part of this business to JP, and by getting to know one another well, he feels that the agent/client alliance can work most effectively. With a clear understanding of his clients’ needs from the very beginning, JP is appreciative of what sort of home that individual or family requires. His no-nonsense approach ensures that both sides are working together to find the most feasible, affordable, and suitable home. His two non-licensed assistants, Kim Schulz and Brent Adkins, are on hand to help at the Re/Max Capital Centre Realtors’ office in Clintonville. Yet, JP’s daily schedule is still so full that even with their support, this twenty-nine-year-old agent still works sixty-hour weeks. In addition to serving clients, JP is also president of the Mid-town Realtors’Association and writes for the Homelife section of The Booster, a Suburban News publication.JP received the CBR Million Dollar Club Award in 1993; only two years after licensing. He received the OAR’s President’s Sales Club Award in 1995 and 1996. Yet, in spite of these early successes, he still feels that there is much more he would like to accomplish. (Remember, he’s working his way up to Trump status.) JPs philosophy on life has a direct impact on his career as well. His credo reads, total self-expression and freedom for mankind. This acceptance of himself and others gives him a unique perspective that supports his business philosophies as well. His goal-oriented lifestyle and his experiences have helped to transform a hard-working, innocent farmboy into a well-respected, sought-after Realtor.
